From For the Strategists to For The Thinkers: Updates and Slight Changes in Direction
Where we're going from here.
Hey Thinkers!
So, all of my subscribers probably wonder, what's up with the new look? I’ve decided to shift my perspective and direction a bit, and wanted to make you aware of significant changes. While we were initially called For the Strategists, and mainly focused on strategy from a historical and military perspective, things have changed for me. We’re still focused on strategy and strategic thinking, but with far less emphasis on warfare and history and far more emphasis on cognitive athleticism, mental models, critical thinking, and living a deep, integral, and fulfilling life.
Why the Shift?
We’re getting dumber.
That’s not even an exaggeration.
NBC News recently reported that IQ is starting to drop in developed countries, and Inc. magazine claims that our smartphone use is rising while our IQ is declining.
I’ve noticed this in myself: increased distractibility, lack of sustained concentration, overthinking: it’s all there. We need a system to combat these changes, and I honestly feel it’s far more nuanced than ‘get off social media and turn off your phone’ (though social media is something we’ll address in the coming weeks).
For the Thinkers is dedicated to helping me provide you with the tools needed to improve your cognitive capacity, in the form of newsletters, digital products, and prompts.
Who’s For the Thinkers Audience?
For the Thinkers, it is for anyone interested in cognitive athleticism. If you’re interested in making yourself smarter, helping you make better decisions with sound mental models, and living an integral, deep life, you’re in the right place. This blog will be of particular interest if you are:
Managers, CEOS, and Founders: I love y’all, and your mind is your greatest asset. Why not learn to sharpen it?
Creatives and Knowledge Workers: Whether you’re a financial analyst, marketing strategist, software designer, or writer, I’ll give you time-tested mental models and frameworks to help you think more creatively and manage your time more effectively.
What’s the Focus of the Newsletter?
So what topics will we be focusing on?
Mental Models and Critical Thinking: We teach you to think better, not just mindlessly consume. You can improve your thinking and reasoning skills by learning how to use mental models.
Strategic Thinking for Life and Work: This will equip you with frameworks for designing your life deliberately and precisely: we’ll show you how to always be at your most significant advantage.
Deep Work and Attention Mastery: We offer solutions to the modern deluge of digital distraction and lack of focus. We teach you how to cultivate a schedule that leaves you thriving, not frazzled.
Cultural Intelligence and Societal Critique: I will damn sure criticize policies and initiatives that promote a decline in education in our society. I hope you will do the same.
The Deep Life: How to live a life of agency and rest.
If this sounds like something you’re into, please continue to stick around! I would love to have you; otherwise, no hard feelings. Just know that you’re in for a ride. I’m hoping to take you with me as I explore the vastness of this world of deep living.
Thanks guys,
~Anna
